At Hallernes Smørrebrød we are proud of our food and our craftsmanship. We use the best ingredients and create beautiful, honest and tasty versions of classic Danish smørrebrød. We opened our first stall in Torvehallerne in 2012 and now have 5 branches in Copenhagen and Lyngby.

Hallernes is known in Copenhagen for having a wide variety of flavors when it comes to this wonderful dish. It can be anything from traditional smørrebrød with a modern twist, such as an avocado with currants, to more exotic varieties with flavors from other cultures. It could be with Asian-inspired ingredients or sandwiches with Indian spice and chicken. There are no limits to how smørrebrød can be served, and that's what makes it so exciting to visit Hallernes. Whether you're into the traditional or the more innovative, there's something for everyone at Hallernes smørrebrød in Copenhagen.

Hallernes Smørrebrød is built according to three rules:

The highest quality
We make most of our food from scratch, using decent ingredients that we prefer to buy locally. We think environmentally friendly as much as possible - our fish is sustainable, our roast pork and boiled eggs are organic - but we don't compromise on taste and buy where we get the best ingredients. In addition, the smørrebrød must be freshly made and at a price that everyone can afford.

Rye bread is the foundation
Rye bread is the foundation of smørrebrød. It's delicious, healthy and it's uniquely Danish. As far as possible, you should be able to see the rye bread on our pieces - it frames the piece and tightens it up, making it simpler and manageable.

The owners are inspired by functionalist Adolf Loos, who said "Decoration is a crime", and architect Mies Van der Rohe, who famously said "Less is more" in 1947. Essentially, both statements are about creating things that can stand beautifully on their own without a lot of effects, pieces and decorations. The traditional lettuce leaf and other unnecessary decorations are banished to make room for each individual ingredient on the sandwich. Every ingredient should have a function and together create a complete taste and visual experience.

At Hallernes Smørrebrød, we know that it is the employees who carry the entire company. We hire people with high energy, a positive attitude and who naturally see themselves as part of a team. We are most successful when we do it together - and that's when we have the most fun.
